Tour itinerary from the center of Rome or from the port Cruise of Civitavecchia
Your driver will welcome you at the dock next to your cruise ship in Civitavecchia or in the lobby of your hotel in Rome at 08.30 am. We will then drive through the peaceful countryside north of Rome, surrounded by ancient olive trees, mainly in the area called Tuscia. This tour includes the village of Orvieto, about 90 minutes by car from Civitavecchia, and the visit of Civita di Bagnoregio, one of the most beautiful and unique villages in Italy.
If you want to relax away from the crowded tourist areas or have already visited Rome and want to see something different. This is the tour for you. Driving towards Orvieto, you will be able to admire the fantastic view of the city sitting on its plateau formed by the “tuff” of volcanic stone. We should arrive after 1 hour and 30 minutes by car. We can then visit the interesting underground city for 45 minutes with an English speaking local guide.
Here, you can explore 3000 years of history following ancient passages, stairs and hidden rooms. The tour ends at your ship or hotel between 5pm and 6pm, with the visit to Orvieto and Civita di Bagnoregio starting at 11.30.
Once in Civita di Bagnoregio
you will have the opportunity to explore the magnificent Duomo, one of the most beautiful cathedrals in Italy. Afterward, you can wander through the quaint streets of Orvieto, lined with vibrant shops selling exquisite ceramics. If time permits, you can savor a delicious meal in a traditional Italian restaurant. Then you will be able to taste some of the renowned dishes of this region.
Alternatively, you can go directly to Civita di Bagnoregio and the driver can suggest a local restaurant along the way. This almost deserted city is only accessible via a small pedestrian bridge. Its population of only 30-50 people makes it look like a ghost town.
Here you can stroll through the alleys and admire this place, which has remained unchanged over the centuries. You will also have the chance to visit an ancient oil mill, built by the Etruscans of the area.
This tour will take you back in time and allow you to explore the unique history of this fascinating area. After visiting the beautiful town, the day will end with the return to your hotel in Rome or at cruise.
You will return between 5pm and 6pm.
